Chalets Steirereck, Austria
The gaze is drawn far and deep into the Mariazeller countryside and high up to the majestic Hochschwab peak. Welcome to the birdhouse. The exclusive chalets such as those at Steirereck am Pogusch, also lovingly known as "birdhouses", are one of a kind. Architect Marleen Viereck has created a comprehensive work of art made of brushed larch. The alpine wall panels Piz Bernina from Mareiner Holz ensure that the four chalets named "Woodpecker", "Bullfinch", "Cuckoo" and "Eagle Owl" blend in perfectly with the woodlands of the Hochsteiermark.
I bank on regional produce, whether I'm cooking in my inn or building. Elsewhere, people build with concrete. Here, in the woodlands of Styria, we build with wood. There is no compromise. That is why Piz Bernina from local company Mareiner Holz was my first choice. Feel-good factor included.
