House Aflenz, Austria
We’re quite often asked people tend not to rebuild things in traditional proportions and with the original material mix. Taking a look at the Aflenz House, we honestly have to say: we don’t know either. If we consider this rustic home and the possibility of vacationing on an authentic farm, we just cannot think of a good reason to stray from the building culture of earlier times.
Planned with a sense of proportion and built with heart and soul, the wooden facade — its Wilder Kaiser wall panels a carpenter’s delight—tells the story of an era of block construction when boards were hewn from the tree trunks and placed directly on the house. Speaking of times gone by: time itself works closely on the design, lending the wood aged with grace a luster all of its own.
